Grab yourself a knee rug and a mug of hot chocolate, it’s time to reminisce those old time dramas from days gone by of pre-2019. Maybe you were around when they aired for the first time and want to take a trip down memory lane by watching them on the box. Maybe it’s your first time through.

This is our weekly discussion exclusively for those older Korean dramas on your currently watching list. We don’t want to hear about the currently hyped dramas here, so please keep it to the older stuff on your watch list.

Reminder, **we advocate the use of legal streaming sources wherever possible**. Wide_Examination142: Started **100 Days My Prince (5/16)** and I’m loving it so far. Uptempo, with snappy dialogue and hilarious hijinks. Characters are all fun and Kim Seon Ho as SML was a delightful surprise! I have a feeling this might make it onto a top 10 list for me.

While I wasn’t at all caught up in the love story it was trying to tell, I was fascinated by the love story that inadvertently crept into its shoddy execution. For me, this is a romance based on the shared delusions of two characters who are in love with a fantasy of the other, instead of the actual person. 

The FL’s passion for the ML comes from her desire to>! not let him go down in history as a bloody tyrant. !!stands over her with a cloak in the rain and takes arrows for her!<. She refuses to let any of the evidence that this is only a small part of who he is dissuade her thinking. For example, she seems shocked by his declaration >!about hoarding the last chance at his mother’s love for himself!< although it perfectly fits everything we’ve seen from the character up to that point. When he refuses to conform to her vision, she >!leaves him, declaring that their love will disappear if she sticks around. !!for her servant to remain in the palace he gives in instead of discussing the reason why he wants to get rid of her. !!murders her best friend!< since what he truly wants is to isolate her and >!death !!her past relationship with the 8th Prince!< is the ultimate betrayal, even though if he’d been at all curious he could’ve made the deduction on his own. By providing evidence that other people matter to her, she can no longer serve her purpose. That’s why he both >!stalks her after she leaves and then cuts her off when he sees her display affection for someone else. !< If the drama had actually set out to tell this story, I would’ve been completely hooked. While I doubt this take will find approval from either **Scarlet Heart’s** lovers or haters, at least I’ve fully processed my reaction and can evict it from the real estate in my brain.

It’s fun and I’m really enjoying it, though I’m not sure I’d be as into it if it didn’t star baby Jung Kyung Ho and Lee Joon Gi (so adorable). I’ve also been having a good time going back and reading some of the group binge threads from five or so years ago. They improve the experience for sure!
